A private investor is a high net worth individual who spends their time and earns their income finding and uncovering worthy business opportunities. A private investor typically looks for entrepreneurs and people with a good business concept. They examine many things including the character of the proposed management team and their track record. A private investor is very thorough when providing seed capital for new start ups, so lets look at the equation from his/her side of the table to better understand what they want from someone with a good idea.
If we put ourselves in the shoes of a private investor we can observe that they have several specific motivations and concerns that directly impact how a new start up should approach them. The most obvious and dominating motivation is the question of risk. Will I get my money back. That is on the lips of every investor who ever considered to invest.
If you cannot answer this objection that sits on their mind at every sentence you speak and every question you answer, then you will not get your new project off the ground...at least not with their money. To answer this question you have to persuade and excite but more importantly you have to provide sober statistics that are provided by a credible source that the investor can independently verify at any time. These statistics typically examine the potential demand and the dollar value of the entire market usually in the billions. Also an emerging trends analysis that can be relied upon does wonders for a private investors confidence.
