Heroes Season Two DVD Review
Heroes Series 1 Episode 5
Heroes Series 1 Episode 2
Since Monday night’s episode, which was cast five years into the future, online chatrooms have been abuzz with discussions on whether Claire really is indestructible. In a chilling scene, Sylar (disguised as Nathan Petrelli, Claire’s biological father), killed her. And all this time viewers thought that was impossible. But Panettiere explains that will be her character’s fate only if the other heroes don’t save New York City.
For now though, she has more pressing concerns on her mind. What power would she love to have? She laughs. “If I could I’d be teleporting right now to the meeting that I have to be right now. And right after I’d be on a beach somewhere on a deserted island in the tropics!”
“In general she is indestructible but there is one spot in the back of the head, near your brain, where if we do get stabbed then we do have the ability to die.” Her understanding of Claire’s power is such that if an object, like a piece of glass is left in the head, how long before she (and Peter) lose the ability to regenerate. And Panettiere [link widoczny dla zalogowanych], like the audience [link widoczny dla zalogowanych], is in the dark about this.
In the first season of Heroes, Claire Bennet has worn a number of hats. She’s been a troubled teenager with a huge secret. She’s been the damsel in distress – the other heroes meant her when they uttered the phrase, “Save the Cheerleader. Save the World.” And Claire has been on a desperate quest to find her birth parents.
“I think she is indestructible. She could jump off the highest building [link widoczny dla zalogowanych], she can go through a wood chopper and she’d be fine,” jokes Panettiere, adding, “But I do think there’s a reason why she was so scared when Sylar comes along. There’s a reason why Peter Petrelli has to save her.”
She’s also just finished work on the feature film, Fireflies in the Garden, opposite Julia Roberts, Emma Watson, and Ryan Reynolds. She’s well known for her work in Remember the Titans and Raising Helen. And Panettiere just graduated from high school, an occasion that was celebrated at the wrap party in Hollywood for Heroes last week. She’s not sure she’ll be pursuing higher education. “I’m not sure. If I wasn’t on this show I would 100% be going to four years in college [but] I do plan on continuing to learn.” She says she might independently take courses in psychology and anthropology.
Show writers haven’t answered the question so she’s formulated her own theory.
Panettiere is on a similar busy journey. She’s working on her first album which is scheduled for an August launch date. (This interview, in fact, took place by phone as Panettiere negotiated brutal morning traffic on her way to the recording studio.)
Now with three episodes left in the inaugural season, Hayden Panettiere, the 17-year-old who plays the indestructible pom pom wielding Claire, looks back at the evolution of her character. “She’s found her footing and is becoming less naïve and more of a strong human being whose not scared to stand up for herself.”
Heroes airs Monday nights on Global in Canada a
But Panettiere would like to see her character get some more action, maybe run into more burning buildings (as she did in the pilot) and save people. “She is the invincible one and I’m kind of getting jealous of Milo [actor Milo Ventimiglia as Peter Petrelli] a little bit because he’s starting to shed more blood than me. I think I need to break something really soon!”
