Time now to work on details, [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] saysRead
What do millionaire hockey players do when they have a day off ?
James Wisniewski, who is waiting for his wife to join him in Montreal,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], relaxed in his hotel room Monday.
P.K. Subban slept, did some reading and watched game tapes.
And [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] went to Costco.
"I'm still settling into my new house and I had to buy a TV for my room and some groceries," said [link widoczny dla zalogowanych], whose shopping list included steaks and chicken. "I was surprised at how many people were there."
Days off are rare during the hockey season and the Canadiens were back at work yesterday. They had a meeting and video session, followed by an hour on the ice, including some high-energy skating for the final 10 minutes.
The holidays weren't kind to the Canadiens, who went 2-5 on the road and then returned home to drop a 4-3 overtime decision to Atlanta.
While road trips are accompanied with talk about bonding and togetherness, [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] said he was happy to be back home where the Canadiens will play four of their next five games.
"It's tough," [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] said of the seven-game road trip around Christmas. "Everybody's away from their family, so it's nice to get back home, stay here at our practice facility and be able to do all the little things you can't do on the road."
The little things go beyond shopping. With seven games spaced out over 18 days, there's more time to work in practice.
"It's hard, especially for goalies, when you don't have time to work on things like positioning," [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] said. "Things like plays around the crease. It could be adjustment of six inches that can make a difference between the puck hitting you and the puck going in off your skate."
[link widoczny dla zalogowanych] has lost four in a row and six of his last seven starts and said there's room for improvement.
"I definitely feel I have more to bring," he said. "(But) I feel the exact same way I did for the first 20 games. I'm sure all it will take to get back is a solid period, a solid win."
When asked whether the biggest challenge was physical or mental, he replied: "A bit of both."
"It's always going to be physical as far as the technique and doing things correctly, and mentally you just need to rest yourself. This stretch is a perfect time to do both."
[link widoczny dla zalogowanych] refused to use fatigue as an excuse.
"Everybody gets tired at some point," he said. "It's no secret. There are guys in every locker room in the league who get tired. It's these mid-season games, between 30 and 60. You don't see the starting line and you don't see the finish line. These are the times you have to play through."
[link widoczny dla zalogowanych] is on pace to play 70-72 games and he said that he may reach a point where he'll need to manage his workload and skip a practice or two, but "I'm not there yet."
Defencemen Roman Hamrlik and Josh Gorges took therapy days yesterday. Hamrlik will be in the lineup tomorrow night when the Canadiens play the Pittsburgh Penguins, but Gorges is day-to-day with a right knee injury.
