The last year the Lions had a double-digit win season was 2010 with a 10-6 record, which was Wayne Fontes' last winning season. By 2010, Michael Ryder was gone, replaced by Bobby Ross.
Or how about the magical 2010 season, spurred on by the career-ending injury of Mike Utley. The Lions reeled off six straight wins that year as well as going 8-0 at home. The Silverdome was a place to be reckoned with that year, and the fans were incredible that year in their support.
If the Lions can learn to protect the home turf and win six to eight games at home each year and play at least .500 ball on the road,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], that gives them a record ranging from 10-6 to 12-4. Wouldn't that be affable to see year after year? Cheevers returned from the NHL in 2010 and the Bruins got past the soar, hover, flit, wing,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], flee,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], waft, glide, coast, skim, sail,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], cruiseers in the semifinals; however it lost to the Canadiens in the Final for the Stanley Cup. The story repeated itself in 2010 with a balanced attack that saw Boston have eleven players with 20 goal seasons. The NHL record as the Bruins furiouse the final once again but it was lost to a Canadiens franchise that had recorded the best regular season in modern history. Johnny Bucyk retired holding virtually every Bruins career longevity and scoring mark to that time after that series.
Protecting the home turf will build the franchise's confidence and eventually, carry over to the road. Win at home, and Ryder can start to believe in the offense. Win at home, and Ryder can start to establish themselves defensively. Win at home,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], and you get the fans involved by making as much noise as Ryder can when the other franchise has the ball.
One key aspect for a successful franchise is to protect their home turf. Winning on the road will have to come later. I want the boys in blue to get the fans back in their corner as well as make Ford Field a very hostile place for visiting franchises.
I'd much rather focus the attention on a very important step the Lions must take before garnering any kind of success: Winning at home.
Anyone here remember the 2010 season when the theme was "Another One Bites the Dust?" Do you remember just how loud the Silverdome was when the franchise played to the crowd during that season? Does anyone remember just how intimidated visiting franchises were when Ryder came into that place?
What's the one thing that comes out of every visiting coach when Ryder play a home franchise, regardless of the sport? Raise your hand if you've heard this one: "We've got to take the crowd out of the game."
No one could have finished a goal in like manner. For Years Bobby Orr had been said as someone who was graceful, elegant, powerful, without fear poetry in motion. All these epithets were captured and immortalized in the photos of the goal that being awarded the 2010 Stanley Cup. Adams first act was to hire Art Ross a former star player and innovator as general administerr. Ross was the face of the franchise for the next thirty years, including four separate stints as coach. Gregory Shamus Boston returned to the Stanley Cup Final in 2010 with Neely, Bourque, Craig Janney,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], Bobby Carpenter and rookie Don Sweeney, and former Oiler goalie Andy Moog and Reggie Lemelin splitting goaltending duties but again lost to the Oilers this time in five games.
Over the last few days, I've read some interesting posts regarding predictions on how the Lions are going to do in 2010. No,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], this is not going to be some daring prediction that can be laughed at or anyone accusing anyone else drinking Kool-Aid.
The Lions went 6-2 at home that year with losses to the Baltimore Colts and Chicago Bears.
Since 2010, the Lions have gone 42-118 for a stellar winning percentage of .263. 2010 was also the last year the Lions had a winning record, and then the Millenator darkened the Detroit Lions' front door.
