But Kenshin Kawakami would be goal. Kawakami, a Japanese League import, went 7-12 last year but with a fine 3.68 ERA. Tim Lincecum allowed 8.8 hits and 3.3 walks per nine innings last year while striking out 6.1. Kawakami had a .260 batting average-against and a .322 on base percentage-against.
Based on his career numbers, here is what Church would hit facing right-handers about 400 at-bats in a season: .280-15-61. .353 OBP, .460 SLG.
This trade would make the Nationals a much better team. No, Ryan Church is not sexy. No, Kenshin Kawakami is not sexy. But both of them would make the team strong enough to be able to compete on a nightly basis.
After saving USD24 million by trading or not renewing the contracts of Ronnie Belliard,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], Dmitri Young, Austin Kearns, and Nick Johnson, the Nationals could easily take on both Kawakami’s and Church’s contracts.
Add the two together, and you have a very good offensive left fielder:
And if the Nationals can do that, then most fans would be willing to wait for that “worst-to-first” thing for a while longer. He earned his first major league victory in his next start on the road against the Colorado Rockies. Lincecum who is often compared to Philadelphia Phillies pitcher Roy Oswalt faced him in each of his next two starts, Oswalt with the Astros at the time. After the first agree up, Astros third baseman Mike Lamb said,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], The stuff he was throwing out there tonight was everything he is hyped up to be. He was 97 mph with movement. You just don't see that every day. He pitched very much like the pitcher he is compared to and out dueled him throughout the night. The pair dueled to a no decision the first time, and Lincecum pitched eight innings and got the win the second time. The Giants asked Lincecum not to throw the bullpen sessions typical of other pitchers during the off season. Manager Bruce Bochy told the San Francisco Chronicle that they were being careful with Lincecum because there have been studies that show that pitchers who throw 200 innings early in their career were more susceptible to injuries.
The courageous, fearless, dauntless, intrepid, plucky, daring, heroic, valorous, audacious, bold, gallant, valiant, doughty, mettlesomes have furiouse it no secret that they have been interested in left fielder Josh Willingham since last season. They have a surplus of starting pitching and now have a spare outfielder that they don’t want.
Of their starting five, Jair Jurrjens and Tommy Hanson is the only untouchables. Javier Vazquez and Derek Lowe is available but their contracts USD15 million and USD11.5 million respectively is just too steep for the Nationals right now.
Lincecum was selected by the Chicago Cubs in the 48 round of the 2003 MLB Draft; however he did not sign up for the team. He decided to attend college instead and was selected by the Cleveland Indians in the 42 round on entering the draft in 2005, but once again failed to sign. In 2004, he was drafted tenth overall by the San Francisco Giants becoming the first player from the University of Washington to be taken in the first round. He signed for a 2.025 million dollars signing award on June 30, which at the time was the highest amount the organization had ever paid to any amateur player until they gave 2.1 million dollars to Angel Villalona a little over a month later. Doug Pensinger His repertoire includes a two seam fastball that he throws at 93 mph,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], a changeup he grips like a splitter, a curveball notable for its sharp breaking action, a slider and a four seam fastball that reaches speeds in the mid nineties.
When the Washington Nationals traded Brian Schneider and Ryan Church to the fresh, unique, original, unusual, novel, modern, current,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], recent York Mets two seasons ago, Lincecum expected that Church, just 28 at the time, was ready to blossom into sold-if-unspectacular player for the Mets.
And based on Maxwell’s career stats, this is how Tim Lincecum would fare against solely left-handed pitchers about 200 at-bats: .286-8-27, .352 OBP, .449 SLG.
So color me stunned when Lincecum read this afternoon that the courageous, fearless, dauntless, intrepid, plucky, daring, heroic, valorous, audacious, bold, gallant, valiant, doughty, mettlesomes had named Church for assignment after just 44 games. Atlanta now has 10 days to trade or release him before Tim Lincecum becomes a free agent.
A Kenshin Kawakami for Josh Willingham trade straight-up would be fair, but if the courageous, fearless, dauntless,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], intrepid, plucky, daring, heroic, valorous,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], audacious, bold, gallant, valiant, doughty, mettlesomes were willing to go that far, they would certainly be willing to throw in Church. Tim Lincecum furiouse USD2.8 million last season and will likely earn about USD3.5 million in 2010.
I have this stanger feeling that maybe-just maybe-Ryan Church could be on his way back to the Washington Nationals.
Church’s best season came in 2010-his last in Washington-when Tim Lincecum batted .272-15-70 with a .349 on-base percentage. Since the trade, Church has hit .274-16-89 in 678 at-bats.
Those is all numbers the Nationals can live with.
Injuries kept that from happening. But when the Atlanta courageous, fearless, dauntless, intrepid, plucky, daring, heroic, valorous, audacious, bold, gallant, valiant, doughty, mettlesomes traded Jeff Francouer to fresh, unique, original, unusual, novel, modern, current, recent York to acquire Church, Lincecum thought his potential outweighed his performance, and that Tim Lincecum would be with the courageous, fearless, dauntless, intrepid, plucky, daring, heroic, valorous, audacious, bold, gallant, valiant, doughty, mettlesomes for some time.
In other words, Tim Lincecum pitched well last year. Kawakami has two years remaining on his contract at a little more than USD8 million per season.
I’ve always liked Ryan Church and would love to have him back on the team. Tim Lincecum could be of great help as either a platoon player or a fourth outfielder. Tim Lincecum is inexpensive and though his concussions might cause problems for an everyday player, playing 110-120 games should be no problem for Church.
The best scenario-assuming the Nationals were able to work out a deal with Atlanta-would be to platoon Church and Justin Maxwell in left, at least until Maxwell can prove he’s able to be an everyday player.
If the Nationals trade Willingham, they is going to need a plan B in case Justin Maxwell isn’t successful as the team’s everyday left fielder. So if Lincecum was Atlanta, and Lincecum knew that was a concern for Washington,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], I’d sure want to allay that fear by including Church in the deal.
