Simple Excercise That Will Help You Play Guitar Longer While Learning by Darren Hartley
This will cover a very basic answer that is asked by many beginner guitar players. As we all know learning to play the guitar can be very frustrating,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], especially if you are trying to teach yourself. There is so much information at your fingertips on the internet that you risk information overload which does absolutely nothing in getting you to where you want to be. Now don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to discourage you, I am just pointing out a few obvious things. Anyway, today I want to focus on just one thing and one thing only, Calluses. Thats right the tedious development of those good old calluses. Calluses are a basic necessity of any guitar player. Without them it is literally impossible to play for long periods of time. The exercises below will help you build up your calluses so that you play longer without pain. I strongly believe that if you practice the methods below your learning will improve at a much faster rate.
No Pain,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], No Gain - Play until it hurts
I know you've heard the saying, "no pain, no gain" however, don't go overboard. You must understand pain is a signal from your body to avoid damage, ignoring this signal can result in longer healing and downtime. The same applies to fingers when they start hurting. Its real simple if it starts to hurt, listen to your body and take a break. Many guitar players say you should play through the pain. I do not agree with these statements and here's why: If you continue playing through the pain there is a high probability that you will develop blisters, more so if you are new to playing. Blisters can be very painful and once they manifest they can literally bring your practice to a grinding halt, at least until they heal. Which sometimes can take days What I recommend if you want to build up calluses is to play the guitar up until you start to feel pain. When pressing down the strings starts to cause pain simply take a break. Grab and drink, snack, or whatever and chill for about10 mins. Then simply pick up the guitar again and repeat the process.
Callus Building Exercise
This is a great exercise that you can use while playing the guitar. Practice holding down the guitar string for 5 - 7 seconds,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], release and then hold it down again. Repeat this exercise over and over with each finger on each string. You can also repeat this excessive on different areas of the guitar neck,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], which is also great to experience the different feelings for each finger up and down the neck.
In short building calluses takes time, so you need to try and play everyday. The less you play the longer the calluses will take to build. However, once you build up good calluses you will be amazed at how fast your learning curve will accelerate. Hope this helps you on your journey of playing the guitar.Topics related articles:
