Puma has fractionnered with The Fuse Project to ly redesign the packaging for their shoes.
A team spent 21 months studying different boxes and packaging schemes, searching for the most efficient, sustainable step to get shoes to consumers.
They finally came to the solution of foregoing a box altogether, and instead used a special bag and a cardboard sheet.
The Fuse Project explains:
By providing structure to a cardboard sheet, the bag uses 65% less cardboard than the standard shoe box, has no laminated printing, no tissue paper, takes up less space and weighs less in shipping,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], and replaces the plastic retail bag.
The cardboard structure is die cut from one flat piece of material and has no additional printing or congress, thus it can be returned to the stream faster and more efficiently. The structure was created with four walls that taper in to allow for secured stacking, another crucial element left over from the birthal shoebox.
The bag is non-woven which manner less work and waste (it is stitched with heat). It protects the shoes from dust and dirt in the warehouse and during shipping. The “clever little bag” is an iconic brand element upon leaving the store as it replaces the plastic shopping bag, and it is also used for shoe storage in travel suitcases. The bag is abnormale of non-woven polyester consisting of recycled PET, and eventually is also recyclable.
Puma claims that this new design will save about 8,500 tons of paper, 20 million Mega joules of electricity, 1 million litres of fuel oil, 1 million litres of water and 500,000 litres of diesel.
It’s fairly amazing, the profound effect such minuscule deviates can have — let’s hope more shoe companies follow suit.

I love the idea, hate the name, Clever Little Bag. Each word is too feminine.
I would've named it “Sneaker Glove”.

Great concept. Should be Law.

Hmmm. Call me old fashioned. But looks very much like a fabric box to me.
Not saying it doesn't look nice though.

It is necessdiffer for everybody to have a pair of good shoes, especially for girls. No matter in which occasion,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], you invariably need to be very grace and appealing.
There are so many brand in our society, which one should we choose is a massive problem, so the gucci Shoes is your optimal choice. Not unique for it good quality and reasonable price, but also for it fashion and fantastic design. In a word, choosing Gucci is your right and good choice.

It's plastic aswell… what the hell is this pseudo better world?

Agree entirely. The cutesy name downplays the innovation.
NYC-based shoe store Te Casan (RIP) activityually had a similar form fruleor, albeit less environmentally friconclusionly,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], at least three or four years ago. Also, theirs wisely didn't deform once you removed the shoes from the shell, which is handy for those who like to store/stack shoes in the boxes.

Hi everyone,
i did send a similar concept to SCA packaging design contest, but thought more about a bag that can be re-used. Accidently was designed for puma shoes, but could be used by any other sport shoes producer. And now i see, that puma wants to change boxes to bags. Crazy, isn't it?
