During my twenty or so years of being in business I have sold many different things. I have sold advertising, Kirby Vacuum Cleaners, paint, key rings, Smoke alarms, directories,Ed hardy Jeans,businesses, electrical appliances, washing machines, books, entertainment, billboard advertising, Alcohol, shoes, food, and all kinds of insurance, including life insurance. If there is money to made from it then I will sell it.
Strange as it may seem, it has always been necessary for me to create a market, or a demand, for everything that I have sold. It has entailed the power of creative selling. It was either create a sale or starve basically.
In selling, it was never a question of prospects; I always had more prospects than I possibly could see. My problem was to cover the available prospects effectively and efficiently. To do this, it was necessary to have a good sales approach.
Therefore, I spent many hours in preparing and creating a good, concrete Sales Plan, around the product or service that I was endeavoring to sell. This Sales Plan needed the qualities and attributes to attract the attention of the prospect, to arouse his or her interest, and to stimulate his or her desire.
It also had to have the dynamic power to convince, and to motivate and impel the prospect to act. This Sales Plan had to centre the prospects thought on my proposition to the exclusion of all others.
I used to sit for hours thinking up sales pitches and slogans for my products. The only product I didn't think a slogan up for was the Kirby Vacuum Cleaners I sold, as they had a slogan that had been used for for centuries,'It beats, as it sweeps, as it cleans,' or something like that.
You see you need to be inventive, you need to plant a seed of thought within the prospects mind that will play on it over and over again.
The secret is to learn everything you can about your customers and your market and use that information to come up with a way to mesmerize them into a belief that your product or service is better than your competitions.

For us, Halloween was here. Some of the older folks were concerned about tomorrow night, which was really Halloween night. We had been told, "Tomorrow night you are not leaving this house." The story was the same with all of us. There was a conspiracy among the older folks. They had it in their heads to spoil our tricking, but our plans were already made, and we had taken what our folks had said into account. We would do our tricking on this night, the night before Halloween and forget about the treats of tomorrow night.Our plan was for all of us to get out of the house as quickly as we could after supper. If your folks raised suspicions, then you were to sneak out before supper. After all, what is a meal missed when the fun of Halloween was about to begin?
Just before supper, Wizzer gave our signal then hollered for me from outside the kitchen door just like we had planned. Mom never could say no to Wizzer. I had never told Wizzer about this, but one day I had heard Mom say that she felt sorry for him, what with him being a change of life baby and all. It wasn't my intent to spy on her. This particular conversation was overheard at one of her gabfests with her friend Julia. I was only trying to do what I had been trying to do with no luck at all for as long as I could remember. Namely, it was to see Mrs. Wetzel sleeping and doing something that took some watching and being careful. Just now, they was pitting and peeling peaches and getting them ready for canning.
