Portage
The portage worker,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], usually employed by the local authority,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], is the link person between parents and all the professionals involved in supporting their child. The portage worker will make home visits to advise and support the parents as well as to devise a programme of play-based activities the parents can do with their child at home. When the child is about to start school,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], the portage worker will liaise with the school in order to ensure a smooth transition.
The exclusionThe head teacher wrote to the parents of R and F telling them that neither R nor F could come back to school, but that they would be given help in completing their course at home. He should, of course, have told the parents immediately, ideally by telephone followed by a letter, of their right to make representations to the governing body.
