Inspiration from the words of a child
There isn't really a day that goes by where I don't have something come across my desk that involves hockey. Whether it's a new book, an article about the game or simply something technical that someone is trying to promote or get my thoughts on, it all comes my way.
All of it is usually good, but today I have to tell you about an article that is truly inspiring.
For the past 11 years I have been fortunate to work with [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] on the Chevrolet Safe and Fun Hockey Program. It is a program designed for 5-8 year olds that focuses on what hockey should really be about while kids are growing up playing the game.... fun, respect and responsibility!
When I received this article it made me think of the common question I am often asked at these camps: what is a parent's role in the game when their child is playing hockey?
My answer, although not really [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] coming from experience, as my daughter hasn't entered the hockey world, is usually based on how my parents treated me as I played minor hockey. They supported me and never allowed me to get away with something in hockey that they wouldn't allow me to get away with off the ice.
They also helped me through the challenging times and helped me to learn some valuable lessons that kids often learn in the game.
I hope this article that I want you to read helps give some perspective to all the great hockey parents out there. It really is more than just a game. It teaches us all valuable lessons that we all take with us throughout the rest of our lives and it shapes us as people.
This story is written by Aedyn MacKenzie, [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] who was 10 years old at the time. It was in the first edition of Motivated Magazine that was produced by her mom Shevaun Voisin after the families' loss of Declan, Aedyn's brother.
The magazine boasts articles from the likes of Bill Clinton among many other leaders in our world. Aedyn's article proves she will one day be one of those great leaders...or maybe the article shows that she is one already!
Cheers to Hockey!
