The Ecuadorian National Assembly on Tuesday approved a defense cooperation agreement with Brazil and a military technical cooperation agreement with Venezuela to boost Ecuador's defense industry.,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]
The Ecuadorian lawmakers approved with 83 votes in favor the Cooperation Agreement on Defense with Brazil,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], which underlined some principles for defense cooperation between the two countries in the fields such as military technology,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], exercises, and equipment development.
Under the agreement, the two Latin American countries would carry out their defense cooperation,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], based on the principles of equality, reciprocity and common interest, and respecting each other's laws and international obligations, said Fernando Bustamante, president of the Foreign Affairs Commission of the National Assembly.
The two countries also will strengthen exchanges of visits of their military delegations, trainers and trainees,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], airplanes and vessels,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], as well as the development of defense technology, Bustamante said.
Meanwhile,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], the Assembly Tuesday approved a military technical agreement with Venezuela to reinforce their cooperation in areas such as military intelligence,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], peacekeeping operations, and oceanographic investigation.
The two countries will also cooperate in the transfer of technology, development of the defense industry,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], military equipment and logistics,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], including maintenance of airplanes, combat vehicles and weaponry.
In addition, they will strengthen their military academic exchanges and technical training.
