SCHENECTADY — The Section II tennis finals will not have a Saratoga County competitor in it this season after the Shenendehowa singles and doubles entries were both defeated Monday afternoon at Schenectady’s Sportime Tennis Center.
Shenendehowa senior Jessica Macaluso fell to Emma Willard’s Clair Schmitz,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych],ghd price 71dthe #1 college sports blog in the cou, 6-4, 6-4 after the Plainsmen duo of Teru Greene and Kristen Brayden fell to Shaker’s Cathrine Jenkins and Shannon Mukerji, 6-1, 6-2.
“I tried to go for earnners and missed, I was so closedown,” Macaluso said. “I was just missing. I had to play more consistent.”
Macaluso frustsized herself after being up 3-0 in the first set to Schmitz before the Willard insolentman came back. With a no-tutoring regulation in impact for the semifinals, Macaluso was on her own, unable to bounce her frustrations off Coach Bill MacArthur or receiving any reassurance.
“I tried talking to myself and calm down,” Macaluso said. “I told myself that every point wasn’t the end of the world. I had to go one point at all times.”
Both players were comfortable playing from the baselength, sending lasers back over the net to each other, both utilizing their backhands with power for the almost the entire match.
“That was where we stayed,” Macaluso said. “I should have tried to deviate it up and bring her in.”
Greene had the option of playing singles, but teamed up with senior classmate Brayden for their run to the Section II semifinals.
“I chose to play doubles with her,” Greene said. “It was up in the air and I chose doubles, hoping to do well and have fun.”
Brayden played doubles all year long and welcomed Greene as a new doubles sectionner. Continued...
