The Franson decision
All year during shoo­touts, I've been saying the Pre­da­tors should use Cody Fran­son. This was based on his [link widoczny dla zalogowanych]-ish goal against the Light­ning ear­lier in the year and a sam­pling of some of the Pre­da­tors' shoo­tout drills I've watched.
The Pre­da­tors used Fran­son last night and he sco­red the deci­sive goal in the brea­ka­way con­test. When I tal­ked to Coach Barry Trotz today, I asked him about why he called on Franson.
"I’m not going to take any cre­dit for that. Mitch (Korn) works with the goal­ten­ders and I have him dis­sect the goal­ten­ders of the oppo­si­tion and cer­tain trends that he sees,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]," Trotz said. "Cer­tain pla­yers have the abi­lity to do cer­tain things and so it comes with the recom­men­da­tion. I give a lot of cre­dit to Mitch."
So there you have it. Trotz didn't choose Fran­son. Goal­ten­ding Coach Mitch Korn did. And a good choice it was.
