New Orleans Saints Notebook: Sedrick Ellis Jersey once considered LSU over USC
METAIRIE – Every NFL player has one or two good college recruiting tales to tell and New Orleans Saints defensive tackle Sedrick Ellis Jersey is no exception.
It seems Sedrick Ellis Jersey’ college choice came down to LSU and Southern Cal, and, as we all know, he ended up signing with the Pac-10 school and Trojans’ then-head coach Pete Carroll, who will bring his NFC West-leading Seattle Seahawks into the Superdome on Sunday afternoon.
“I made a verbal commitment to LSU and the next day I got home from (LSU) and coach Carroll and all of ’em were at my high school (Chino High in Chino, Calif.) just to make sure that I didn’t end up in Louisiana,’’ said Sedrick Ellis Jersey, the Saints’ No. 1 pick in 2008 who has a team-high four sacks this season.
Asked if Southern Cal had ratcheted up its recruitment after he verbally committed to LSU, Sedrick Ellis Jersey replied: “To be perfectly honest, I just had a better time at LSU. I just had a little better experience at LSU, but my mom and the coaches made me realize that I was across the country and it probably wouldn’t have been the best of ideas.’’
Asked what he did during his recruiting visit at LSU, Sedrick Ellis Jersey replied with a smile: “It’s none of your business. I was 17 years old, dude.’’
A BUSH-EL OF TROUBLE
When a healthy Saints running back/punt returner Reggie Bush finally returns to the lineup, perhaps as early as this Sunday against Seattle, he will present numerous problems for opposing defenses.
“He’s a game plan nightmare for other teams,’’ Saints fullback Heath Evans said of RB25. “Not that he’s catching eight balls a game and running 25 times. But, you just got to prepare for him anytime he’s on the field.
“He creates mismatches for a defense when they do roll the dice and man-him up. It’s always a win-win situation, even if he’s on a cornerback and definitely a safety or a linebacker. It makes things easier for Sean (Payton) because it always stirs up trouble for a defense wherever Reggie goes. If he’s going out in a pass pattern, you got to account for him all the time.’’
WEDNESDAY PRACTICE REPORT Sedrick Ellis Jersey
-- DNP: TE Jeremy Shockey (ribs), FS Darren Sharper (left hamstring), CB Patrick Robinson (high ankle sprain), RB Pierre Thomas (left ankle).
Thomas has been sidelined since Sept. 26 when he severely sprained his left ankle in the Saints' 27-24 loss in OT against the Atlanta Falcons at the Superdome. He did some individual on-field work Wednesday, though he moved gingerly at half-speed. "He’s making progress,'' Payton said. "With him, I really just want to go day-to-day here this week and just see how he continues to move.”
-- LIMITED: RT Jon Stinchcomb (knee), RB Chris Ivory (shoulder), FS Malcolm Jenkins (neck), RB Reggie Bush (fibula). Sedrick Ellis Jersey
NOTE: In Seattle, QB Matt Hasselbeck practiced fully Wednesday and is expected to play against the Saints despite suffering a fractured left wrist in the Seahawks’ 36-18 victory at Arizona on Sunday.
WORTH REPEATING
“It’s not an issue during the season. It’s not on my radar. I’m just thinking about winning games. But obviously, when the time comes, we’ll definitely be talking.’’ _ Saints QB Drew Brees when asked if his current contract status is a topic of discussion with team officials. He is in the fifth year of a six-year, $60 million deal originally signed on March 14, 2006. |
