Book review: Curriculum for Gifted and Talented Students
I favor to flick through books, let my eyes be arrested by a graph, a chapter caption or a quotation. This writing did no do this; I returned to the starting and began apt peruse the book chapter at chapter. It namely one American book with chapters written by academics including 3 by Joseph Renzulli. The prologue chapter identifies three curriculum models that tin be accustom with G&T students: the content mastery model, the process/product research prototype and the epistemological notion model. The content model encourages students to shake via stuff as quickly for possible. Students can be diagnostically tested and then given appropriate materials. The preceptor is the facilitator. The process/product model is based above students learning investigation skills to develop a high-quality piece of work. The teacher/student relationship is collaborative and the curriculum is driven by the pupils interests. Lastly, the epistemological model focuses aboard students understanding systems of learning rather than aboard specific subject places. The pedagogue doings as a doubter,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], formative discussions and the pupil reads, reflects and writes. This model exposes gifted children to a structure not covered by a orthodox curriculum.A very popular method of enriching the curriculum is by catering real-life problems, to which pupils apply their knowledge and capabilities. In chapter 5, Renzulli discusses what makes a problem real. He argues that adding prepackaged, canned elements to the G&T curriculum or just accelerating pupils onto higher-level topics are not agreeable solutions as the learning model and the role of the learner have not changed. Instead, real problems should be made the chief focus of anyone blueprint for gifted pupils. A serviceable synopsis is presented on the characteristics of a real problem and a digit of problems are analysed to determine if they are real problems. This chapter heaved my comprehending of one amusing point yet there was little of straight practical use to me, highlighting either the strengths and disabilities of this book. This is a very thorough learn of how curricula are designed in the US to provide for G&T students. If I were studying for beyond academic qualifications, then this book would be on my bookshelf, carefully studied and referenced in my writing. However as a busy G&T coordinator looking for fancies which I can fast integrate among my educate,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], this is not the 1st book I would prefer nor would it be suitable as a colleagues first read on the G&T curriculum. He should, of course, have told the parents immediately, ideally by telephone followed by a letter, of their right to make representations to the governing body.
